Some people believe that schools should teach students how to fight and physically defend themselves while others think it causes many problems for the youth. What is your opinion?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

Youth vulnerability is of no doubt as history has shown us enough how cruel life has been to innocent defenseless children. To diminish this phenomenon, some people believe that schools should include a practical course in their curriculum so they learn how to protect themselves. Opponents, however, including me, believe that by doing so, we not only destroy pupils’ feelings but also leave them with the obsession of insecurity yet it is not an absolutely ideal idea.

First and most importantly, launching such a scheme destroys pupils’ feelings. While affection and intimacy bring a smile to our faces, presenting the cruel face of the world and how to tackle it absolutely devastates the temperament. Providing that students are to feel how brutal the cosmo is and get to prepare themselves to fight, the notion of friendship and unity becomes absurd and the child loses his/her sentimentality gradually as it is proved in children playing violent video games. Besides, the ultimate destruction also might occur as in this period they learn the radical facts of life. This way, adolescents get to ignore their feelings since it is no place to express them freely; some African countries are convincing cases up to the point of making killing machines out of their youngsters according to UNICEF.

Moreover, talking of attack and defense leaves them with the obsession of insecurity. This way, the child starts to have butterflies in his/her stomach constantly; my sister, for example, sent her son to a martial school at a way early age; my nephew now suffers from severe anxiety and depression for no specific reasons. Besides, as we are all what we were taught as a kid, having such classes makes the forthcoming generations walking stress capsules!

Nevertheless, we cannot shut our eyes to true facts and progressing crimes such as kidnaping, rape, conspiracy and fraud, murder and so on; therefore, wise careful strategies just to open their eyes wide is definitely beneficial. Also, till when are we going to lie to them about the real world out there? They have to meet the bitter truths sooner or later as did Buddha.

To sum up, although running physical defense classes can lead to stressful conditions, it is also not appropriate to leave them unconscious; thus, officials should seriously embed this issue in their top priorities as it still has not got late. (Conclusion completed with a warning!)

To sum up, although running physical defense classes can lead to stressful conditions, it is also not appropriate to leave them unconscious; thus, officials should seriously embed this issue in their top priorities so that we can systematically achieve a much happier future generation that knows how to successfully cope with this matter. Universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

University has its own criteria just as other institutes do in the modern world. Peculiar as it may seem, to maintain a harmony between sexes, an equal figure of men and women acceptance in universities – regardless of the subject – is recommended by some people. To me, however, despite its accuracy, it is not an absolutely flawless idea.

Firstly, while some people believe that one of the sexes can beat the other, researches are carried out proving the opposite; that is, some women could do much better than their male counterparts in some fields such as architecture and industrial engineering. Gentlemen, similarly, have acted surprisingly in areas such as cooking; my brother is a case in hand with his obese figure!

Moreover, it is far away from everyone’s natural right to choose what to study; for instance, a woman might like to become a ranger and conversely a man that likes to be a professional dancer! How on earth are we allowed to block their way? Who knows? They may end up coming up with exotic innovations! That is how nations meet progressing opportunities.

Nonetheless, there are specific subjects that no one dares to select even one in a million; for example, a man can never make a nanny since it needs a lot of compassion and affection! Or definitely a woman has no chance to make a real commando fighting in battle fields which even makes a man burst into tears as it is way brutal naturally.

Altogether, even though having limitations and sex discrimination is undoubtedly impractical, under specific circumstances and for particular majors, I suggest universities accept a suitable number of boys and girls for different especial purposes with no single-sex field of studying. (287)

WRITNG TASK 2

Write about the following topic:

In many cities crime is increasing. Why do you think this happening? What can governments do to help reduce crime levels? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

In the contemporary world, the reported cases of crime all over the world are alarmingly increasing. It is believed that the main reasons behind this are the rise in population and the increase in the inflation rate. This can be harnessed with the involvement of the Government which is discussed further in the context of this essay.

In order to justify my point of view, I would like to state that the population of a country will be the first and foremost reason behind this increase in crime. Take India for instance, it is a developing country and in the prevailing scenario its population is sky rocketing, which creates a significant number of problems. With respects to that, unemployment is the major one; consequently, educated and sophisticated people survive without jobs and result in indulge in the crime to bear their expenses. Thus it is clear from this example that population is the major cause which ultimately forces people to commit crimes. To combat this grave problem, governments can arrange educational classes and programs to increase public awareness about the exacerbated effects of the increase in population.

Furthermore, the inflation rate is another reason for the increase in the number of crime cases in certain countries. To illustrate, In India nowadays, the inflation rate is booming continuously; which causes enormous problems and creates an inequality between rich and poor people, as rich become richer and poor become poorer. Hence, it has been seen from this example that the increase in inflation also leads to the increase of crime to some extent. This grim and gruesome problem can be tackled only by Governments, so government should adopt some leniency against the poor people and give rebates so that they can survive and bear their expenses smoothly.

Eventually, after analyzing all the views, I would like to conclude that crime in any way is a major problem for any country. It needs a combined effort by Governments, masses and classes of any country to join the hands together to nip this evil into the bud. Otherwise it is expected that it could be worsen in near future.

Write about the following topic:

Out of a country’s health budget, a large proportion should be diverted from treatment to spending on health education and preventative measures. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

As reported, there have been a few recommendations from health experts to Governments on allocating budgets to educate the public to live a healthy lifestyle which can prevent people from falling ill. I totally agree with them, as it is a cost-effective way to handle public health problem confronted by most of the governments in the world.

One of the most important functions of governments is to maintain the public health at a relatively high level. However, the traditional pattern adopted by governments is spending a large amount of money on providing treatment, which leads to a vicious circle: the more money they invested, the worse situation it turned to be. Let’s consider smoking control programs in China. According to statistics, there are about 1.2 million of people died of lung cancer because of smoking or second-handed smoking. Merely in 2000, the cost of smoking in China has reached nearly 5 billion RMB varied from treatment expenditure and the production losses. In fact, if the government had switched its policy by providing more education programs about living a healthy life style, asking the cigarette manufactures to tag warning marks on the packaging of cigarette, forbidding smoking in public, penalizing the retailers who sell cigarette to the people under 18. Doing that, the amount of patients suffered from lung cancer would reduce significantly.

Moreover, funding on disease prevention projects and educating the public with healthy life style would contribute to the social stability. Suffering from disease is not only money-consuming but also miserable and painful. It isn’t unusual to see people commit crimes because of money shortage which stems from highly cost of disease treatments. If Governments take action before bad situation happens, for example, raising residents’ health awareness and proving an unpolluted environment, it will prevent many people from suffering disease so as to curb the proliferation of crime.

WRITNG TASK 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

Happiness is considered very important in life. Why is it difficult to define? What factors are important in achieving happiness?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

As far as I know, the perception of happiness differs considerably from one individual to another as a result of the diversity of characteristics and environmental factors. In this essay, a few factors to attain happiness will be identified.

Admittedly, happiness means different things to different people because of their various perceptions. Some people refer happiness as a feeling of pleasure or enjoyment. For instance, a child has toy, a girl owns a shoes collection or people enjoy spending time with their family and friends. Nevertheless, other people see money as a source of happiness. They sacrifice everything in their pursuit of wealth and consider that earning money is solely a way to attain happiness.

Another reason why people have difficulty in defining happiness is that their objectives and interests vary in different life stages. One has the passion for toys as a child, fashionable clothing as a youth, an admirable occupation as an adult and possibly a company of family members as an elder. With age, one’s attitudes, capabilities and concerns are subject to change. Following the latest fads, for examples, appeals to young people, despite the expenditure of time and money. By comparison, senior people are hardly interested in their clothes fashion. They even tend to regard them as a wasteful use of money.

Considering the fact that people are all motivated to attain objectives for their happiness, they should first give different weight to different subjects, such as health, money, family or occupation. Few people can attain several aims at the same time. Therefore, the primary factor to achieve happiness is identifying the top priority elements. In addition, in order to be truly happy, it is necessary to live a good life as well as to do something useful with their lives. Some people get a sense of achievement from their work, whereas others find happiness is bringing up their children.

In conclusion, each person defines happiness in his own ways based on personal perceptions and life stages. In general, determining the top priority elements in achieving one’s objectives and living a good life are the two most important factors to attain happiness.

You have been working in a company for many years and have noticed that new employees often leave your company. Now write a letter to your higher authority and suggest the possible reasons for that and ways to retain them.

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer 1:

Dear Mr David,

I am working in one of your nearshore offices in Uruguay for half a decade now. I have been noticing the employees, especially the ones with less than 3 years of work experience are quitting the company more often. I am in touch with a few of them, who actually left recently.

The more common reason, I could hear from them is there is no adequate scope for learning with the projects here. They were expected to do the same monotonous work for a long period of time, which didn’t add much to their growth curve.  I suggest some Learning Management Systems, which would give you self-evaluation and which can be used to assess the employee’s performance as well. I hope you would consider my recommendations, so that we may be able to retain the talented young professionals, who will add more value to the business and to our company. Also by doing this, we will not spend more money in recruiting and training new people most of the time.

Thank you

  • Introduce yourself
  • Explain what experience and special skills you have
  • Explain why you are interested in the job

Model Answer 1:

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to apply for the holiday job in your museum which you have advertised recently in the newspaper. I am a 35-year-old girl and interested in working in this position. I can speak English, Sinhala and Tamil quite well. I am a teacher in a government school. I teach history and I am very keen to have a holiday job in this summer vacation, specifically in your museum.

Last year, I worked in a large bookshop during my vacation and enjoyed it very much. I would like to meet people and serve my position with my dedication, commitment and hard work. I really love history, because I have a great passion in it and I teach this subject in the school. I enjoyed going to your museums and I spent a considerable amount of time there. I visited your museum with a team a few months ago and I am familiar with this museum that would give me the advantage to work there. I think you will be kind enough to consider me as a suitable candidate for this position.

I look forward to hearing from you soon and further discuss my joining in this position.

You feel the evening programs on a local television station are uninteresting.

Write a letter to the manager of the television station. In your letter:

  • Explain why you do not like the current programs
  • Describe what kind of programs you would like to see instead
  • Explain why these programs are better

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer 1:

Dear Manager,
ABC TV channel.

I am writing this letter in regards to the evening programs which are currently being broadcasted in your television channel. I am sorry to inform you that as per the current schedule of the evening slot, most of the programs are quite boring and unexciting. It would be great if you can reschedule some of these programs and introduce more exciting and absorbing programs in the evening time.

Most of these programs of the evening slot are in the category of opera soaps and the target audiences are mostly adult women. If this slot had more family entertainment programs like comedy, magic show, reality show, children-oriented programs, documentaries on wildlife or some science frictions related programs, it would have been more captivating for audiences of all ages. I believe that by introducing this variety of programs in the evening slot, your channel will definitely attract more viewers and well as advertisers. Hence, audiences of a specific age group enjoy your evening programs, you must be missing some advertising opportunities.

Evening time in each family is considered to be the reunion time. Children join their parents after completing a long day in school and in the same way parents also return home after a tiring day in office. So every member of the family prefers being in the living room in the evening as their meeting place and television as their medium of relaxation and entertainment. Now if your channel can telecast my proposed list of programs, it will cover the interest of everyone in the family.

I hope my request is valid and logical enough to draw your attention. Please reconsider about your current evening schedule of programs which are being telecasted.

Thanking You

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to you to express my satisfaction and admiration regarding the outstanding service which I have enjoyed with some of my friends in your renowned restaurant, “La-Italiano”, a few days ago.

It was one of my friend’s birthday, so we decided to celebrate it in your restaurant, as it is located at a convenient location from our living place as well as its good reputation for delicious foods.

We took traditional Italian cousin for dinner and special black forest cake from your restaurant. It really worth the money we paid because I suppose you have hired the best chef of the town! The service of the waiters was also marvellous. They were truly well-mannered, organised and skilled for serving foods.
On top of that, the interior design of your place is adequately charming and mind blowing.

We also realised that how preciously your customers are being treated by your staff, when my friend got a chocolate box as a birthday gift, on behalf of your restaurant.  That truly made our day.

I hope concerning authorities of your restaurant will ensure this excellent service for the long run.

Thank you for your cooperation and excellent service.

I have come to know that you are under observation by the team of qualified doctors at Jinnah hospital. Some of my relatives are working there as medical practitioners. I will request them to take the best care of you. There is no need to worry as the hospital has exceptional reputation due to its well-trained staff and modern equipment. However, I would like to know your personal opinion about the way the hospital staff are treating you. Is there anything you want us to do for you?

I want to share a very good news with you. You have been selected in the national football team as a lead striker. In addition to this, our university has announced full fee scholarship to acknowledge your efforts in sports. I wish you good health and will visit you soon.

The graph shows the estimated maximum population of elephants in a range of Asian countries in both 1997 and 2004.Overall, it can be seen that in most of the countries included in the graph, the population fell.

This was most noticeable in Malaysia and Thailand, where the number of elephants was thought to be less than half the figure in 1997. In the former, the number of elephants dropped as low as 1000. India remained the country with by far the largest elephant population, but experienced a dramatic fall in numbers so that in 2004 there may have been as few as 7500. Despite its size, China had a very small population of at most 500 elephants by 2004.

Although the trend was downwards overall, elephant populations were thought to have remained stable in Laos and Vietnam at approximately 1200. The only

country where elephants showed signs of recovering was Cambodia, where numbers may have risen by up to 200.

Brick manufacturing

نمونه رایتینگ آیلتس

Model answer:

The process by which bricks are manufactured for the building industry can be outlined in seven consecutive steps.

First the raw material, clay, which was just below the surface of soil in certain clay-rich areas, has to be dug up by a digger. Then, the lumps of clay are placed on a metal grid in order to break up the big chunks of clay into much smaller areas, which fall through the metal grid onto a roller, whose motion further segregates the bits of clay. Sand and water are added to make a homogenous mixture, which is then either formed in moulds or cut into brick-shaped pieces by means of a wire cutter.

Those fresh bricks are then kept in a drying oven for at least 24 and a maximum of 48 hours, several dozen if not hundreds of bricks at a time. The dried bricks are then transferred to a so-called kiln, another type of high temperature oven. First they are kept at a moderate temperature of 200C – ۱۳۰۰C. This process is followed by cooling down the finished bricks for 48 to 72 hours in a cooling chamber.

Once the bricks have cooled down and have become hard, they get packaged and delivered to their final destination, be it a building site or storage.

The graph gives past, present and future data concerning the production of world’s oil on OPEC and non-OPEC countries. The figures indicate that while the production of oil in Middle Eastern OPEC countries is predicted to increase considerably, oil production elsewhere is likely to fall.

Between 1980 and 2000, most of the world’s oil came from non-OPEC countries; only two million barrels per day were produced by OPEC countries. Since then, these figures have changed considerably. Between 2000 and 2010 it is predicted that approximately 10 million barrels will come from Middle Eastern OPEC countries, while a further 10 million barrels will be provided by other OPEC or non-OPEC countries.

Although forecasters predict that oil production is likely stabilize between 2010 and 2020, a lot more of this oil is expected to come from the Middle Eastern OPEC countries, and under 5 million barrels per day from other areas.

By comparison the rate of divorce increased in most countries over the same period. The only exceptions to this trend were Germany, where there was no change, and the USA and Denmark, where the figure fell. The country with the fewest divorce in both 1981 and 1994 was Italy.

The table represents information in terms of US household distribution in three centuries from 1790 to 1990. Overall, the average PPH (population per household) fell almost by half from 5.4% to 2.6% in a 200-year period in the United States.

In 1790, seven-person families constituted the greatest figure with almost one third spread (35.8%); the least numeral, however, was for the one-person with 3.7%. The average member families were five, four and three people with 13.9% for the first two and 11.7% for the last mentioned respectively.

Moving to the second century (1890), a more balanced spreading is observed. While single-person families have more or less stayed the same, two-person families have doubled, three, four and five have grown a little, and six and seven-member families have fallen slightly with nearly 2 and 12 percent in the order stated. The most significant change in this era compared to the previous one is seen in the largest households.

Finally in 1990 with the average 2.6 PPH, two-person families were accounted for the largest group with roughly a third percent followed by single-man households with 24.6%. At the lowest rank of the table, sit the two groups of six and seven-person families with 2.3% and 1.4% in the order listed.

All in all, it is apparent that one-person and seven-person households had completely reverse trends throughout the last two hundred years.
